I'm looking forward to rejoining my fellow Standard Development Committee members this coming week as we participate in Meeting 7 of the development of a new Health Care Standard under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act,2005 (AODA). The AODA is the law in Ontario that requires businesses, government offices, and schools, colleges, and universities, among others to remove barriers that make built environments, products, and services inaccessible to people with disabilities. The new Health Care Standard is intended to apply initially only to hospitals, but even with that narrowed scope, the task of developing recommendations that will advance the rights of people with disabilities while also being feasible to implement and enforceable is herculean! Look for updates in future blog posts....
